New York Mills Senior Center
New York Mills Senior Center is a thoughtfully designed 33-unit senior housing development located on the site of a former knitting mill. Completed in 2007, this new construction project was funded through a combination of the NYS DHCR 2005 Unified Funding round, Federal 9% Low-Income Housing Tax Credits (LIHTC), and Housing Trust Funds, ensuring both affordability and sustainability.
The building has been designed in close collaboration with the NYS Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation (SHPO) to preserve the architectural character of the original textile mill while incorporating modern amenities. The facility includes twenty-nine one-bedroom units and four two-bedroom units, alongside a suite of community-focused amenities.
Residents enjoy a 3,550 square foot community room on the ground floor, designed specifically for the Village of New York Mills senior citizens organization. This space is complemented by a laundry room, rental office, extra storage, and automated entry doors. Additional features include free internet access and ENERGY STAR appliances, enhancing both comfort and efficiency.
Liberty Affordable Housing Inc. collaborated closely with state and local municipalities, including the Village of New York Mills, to ensure the development meets the community’s needs effectively while revitalizing the area.
