Estee Senior Apartments

Estee Senior Apartments is a thoughtfully redeveloped affordable senior housing complex that transformed the long-vacant Estee School into a modern residential community. Funded through the NYS HCR 2015 Unified Funding round, this project utilized a combination of Federal 9% Low-Income Housing Tax Credits (LIHTC), a NYSERDA grant, CDBG funds from the City of Gloversville, LISC funds, and an EDAP grant administered by DASNY.

Given the deteriorated condition of the original Estee School, which faced issues such as spalling bricks, rotting structural elements, and mold, demolition was deemed necessary. The new construction, completed in June 2018, preserves the architectural style of the historic school while offering 37 one-bedroom units of quality senior housing. Eight of these units are equipped with Project-Based Section 8 assistance to enhance affordability.

The facility features a range of amenities designed to support a comfortable and engaging living environment, including a community room, laundry room, exercise room, computer lab, and rental office. The redevelopment began with demolition in June 2017, followed by rapid construction, and welcomed its first residents in June 2018.
