Knitting Mill Apartments Receives Preservation Award

Congratulations to Knitting Mill Apartments in Fall River for receiving a 2022 Paul & Niki Tsongas Award! The Tsongas Award is Preservation Massachusetts’ highest honor, honoring people and projects that have displayed the highest level of commitment to historic preservation in the Commonwealth.

Named for the award’s first recipient, Senator Paul Tsongas, it was expanded in 2016 to include the contributions of Congresswoman Niki Tsongas to preservation efforts across all of Massachusetts.

It was truly an honor to be recognized as the only out-of-state developer and management company in the state of Mass.

FALL RIVER’S KNITTING MILL APARTMENTS HOSTS GRAND OPENING

In October, 2019 Liberty’s Knitting Mill Apartments in Fall River Massachusetts officially hosted its Grand Opening and welcomed their new residents. In celebration of this event, many local and state leaders and representatives were on hand to participate in the occasion. They joined with Liberty staff, consultants and Board representatives to celebrate Liberty’s first ever project in the state of Massachusetts, converting a former knitting mill constructed over a 120 years ago into 100 units of affordable senior housing, a senior center for the community and a health education and wellness center.

KNITTING MILL APARTMENTS BREAKS GROUND

On December 15, 2017 Liberty marked the groundbreaking of its Knitting Mill Apartments in Fall River Massachusetts. Many local and state leaders and representatives were on hand to participate in the occasion. They joined with Liberty staff, consultants and Board representatives to kick off Liberty’s first ever out of New York State project which will convert a former knitting mill constructed over a 120 years ago into 100 units of affordable senior housing, a senior center for the community and a health education and wellness center.

ELIZABETH SQUARE APARTMENTS PROJECT COMPLETED / RIBBON CUTTING HELD

The renovation of this 85 unit senior property in Waverly New York finished on schedule and on budget. Work scope included new roof, new common area flooring, new laundry, updates to all 85 units including new kitchens and baths.

Funds were also secured to provide the branch of the Waverly Library which is located within the Elizabeth building new carpet, paint and furniture. Work was completed in September 2017 and the project dedicated October 25^th ,2017 with state and local officials and many residents in attendance.

100 CHENANGO PLACE PROJECT IS DEDICATED

On Tuesday July 25, 2018, Liberty Affordable Housing Inc. held a special ribbon cutting ceremony to mark the completion of its renovation of 100 Chenango Place project in Binghamton, New York. Among attendees were the Mayor of Binghamton.

The project featured much needed updates to the 144 Unit senior property, constructed in 1974. Scope of work included updates to all units including new kitchens and baths, new roof, modernized elevators.

ESTEE SENIOR APARTMENTS BREAKS GROUND

Liberty held a ceremonial groundbreaking on August 2^nd, 2017 to mark the start of the construction of the Estee Senior Apartments in Gloversville New York. The 37 unit structure will provide quality affordable housing for Gloversville area seniors.

As a tribute to its historical significance, Estee Senior Apartments will be built to resemble the Estee School which served the City for over 100 years on the same site.

Residents of Estee Senior Apartments will enjoy secure, comfortable, and energy efficient living. Amenities available include laundry on each floor, community room, fitness room, and technology center. Construction is expected to be complete by June 2018.

VAGIANELIS NAMED LIBERTY’S COUNSEL

The Liberty Affordable Housing Inc. Board of Directors is pleased to announce the appointment of John N. Vagianelis, as Counsel. Mr. Vagianelis is the Managing Partner of Mazzotta & Vagianelis, P.C. located in Albany, New York.

Mr. Vagianelis brings to Liberty his extensive experience in the areas of real estate finance and development, municipal finance and general business law, including, but not limited to, mortgage financing and letter-of-credit enhancement for affordable housing transactions, including tax-exempt bond transactions and Freddie Mac multi-family financings and other government subsidized mortgage lending programs. He has successfully represented developers and lenders in a variety of multi-family housing transactions all across New York State, including low-income housing tax credit transactions, historic tax credit transactions, HUD-assisted financings, USDA Rural Development financings and supportive housing transactions with the New York State Office of Mental Health and New York State Office For People With Developmental Disabilities.

For more than twenty years Mr. Vagianelis has established and maintained excellent working relationships with the parties necessary for the successful development of affordable housing: mortgage lenders, federal and state agencies, tax credit equity syndicators and local municipalities.

Mr. Vagianelis received his undergraduate degree from Colgate University, cum laude, and his law degree, cum laude, from Albany Law School of Union University.

CHRISTINA SANFILIPPO NAMED NEW BOARD MEMBER

Liberty Affordable Housing, Inc. welcomes Christina SanFilippo as the newest member of its Board of Directors. She will serve as a Resident Director.

Christina has been a resident of Liberty’s New York Mills Senior Center property for almost 9 years. She grew up in nearby New Hartford and graduated from New Hartford High School. She then went on to a successful career as a beautician upon graduating from Mohawk Beauty School. She was married for 34 years and has 4 sons; two which are local business owners.

Liberty’s Board looks forward to working with Christina and the valuable perspective she brings as a resident of New York Mills Senior Center.
